Cutting Boards - Part 7
Gluing the boards is a bit problematic step in the production.
Firstly I glued the cut stripes together into small boards again and I flattened those on the drum sander. Once sufficiently flat, I cut these boards into 25 mm stripes.
These stripes were subsequently glued together into final boards.
Gluing 10 pieces took some time because the old woodwork adage "there's never enough clamps" holds true, thus after gluing three pieces I had to wait until the glue sets because I ran out of clamping power. And despite being careful, in two boards I messed up the patterns and I had to cut them up and glue them together anew.
However, towards the end I was getting faster as I slowly learned what does (not) work.
In one of my previous articles, I mentioned that I made a fixture from pipes to ease the process. Unfortunately, whilst it is working, it is far from ideal and I do hope that I will get some better idea in the future.
Next week I will write again about flattening the boards.
