Cutting Boards - Part 15

27/01/2025

Flattening the glued-up boards is unfortunately still a huge pain in the ass and decisively the most time-consuming step in the manufacturing process. And so far I came up with only one small improvement for the jig to span the boards when flattening the surface with a router.

The jig consists of two parts that I pressed together with two clamps to hold the board between them in place. The improvement consists of two wooden boards fixed to the bottom of the front half that serve as rails for the rear half to slide on.  In the middle, there is now a threaded rod that can pull both halves together to clamp the board.

It did not improve the actual result of flattening the boards with the router but it did make the fastening/unfastening of the board into the jig much faster. This is a good thing because the boards that are currently being made are too big to flatten in one go so I have to clamp them twice.

I also had to improve the drum sander a bit, and about that I shall write next week.
